Chris Cheek
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Chris Cheek started out playing with a variety of local jazz and blues bands. He moved to Boston in 1988 where, while studying at Berklee College of Music, he had the opportunity to play in a wide range of musical situations. Cheek moved to New York in 1992 and since then has become a regular member of several different bands, including "the Bloomdaddies" and Paul Motian's "Electric Be-Bop Band". Chris has toured extensively throughout Europe with these and other groups. Along with being a sideman on numerous recordings, Cheek has three albums as a leader on Fresh sound records, "I Wish I Knew", "A Girl Named Joe", and most recently "Vine".
Everything Chris plays comes from a state of intense listening and paying attention to the moment, which makes him a dream to play with and to listen to. Chris Cheek is already considered a master of improvisation.
