Jean Paul Brodbeck Group

Jean-Paul Brodbeck – piano & keyboards
Johannes Enders – saxophone
Wolfgang Zwiauer – bass
Christian Niederer – drums
Wolfgang Muthspiel – guitar

“Hang on Hippie” is the title of Jean-Paul Brodbecks latest CD album (and debut for Material Records) and will be released on October 16th, 2009.

“The music of the 70’s influenced me strongly,” says the Swiss pianist. The look back to his funk and hip hop sources and his successful and inspired years within jazz music have inspired him to create the sound for his new record. Within the new compositions Brodbeck manages to combine early influences and to create tight groove oriented music with lots of room for improvisation. In addition to his regular acoustic piano Brodbeck also plays a Fender Rhodes on many songs. In the piece “New Song” for example, one can hear Pop and Country influences being transformed via JP’s individual arrangement.

Never abstract, his pieces still have just enough harmonic twists and turns to provide an ideal situation for the interactive ensemble… Wolfgang Zwiauer on electric bass and Christian Niederer on drums are both longterm musical partners of Brodbeck. Two masters of their instruments, Johannes Enders on saxophone and Wolfgang Muthspiel on guitar, complement the band. With
their personality, joy of discovery and great experience, these four musicians create an inspiring setting for Brodbeck to develop his new music.

The album, which Brodbeck co-produced together with Muthspiel for Material Records, will be followed by a tour.
